PRIVACY STATEMENT
Learning data should serve the learner.
Effective July 21, 2026
1. Scope
This statement describes information processed by the Socratiq website and learning application. Socratiq is currently an open-source educational project in active development, operated on a not-for-profit basis and privately supported.
2. Information Socratiq processes
Socratiq processes only information needed to operate and improve the learning service:
- Basic Google account identity information used to sign in, such as the stable account identifier, verified email address, display name, and profile image.
- The date and time a user affirms that they are at least 13, whether they identify as a student, learning supporter, or both, and the version of the Terms they accept. Socratiq does not ask for or store a birth date.
- Course enrollments, lesson activity, concept mastery observations, evidence summaries, and identified or resolved learning confusions.
- Student messages, tutor responses, structured tutoring decisions, internal model reasoning used to diagnose tutoring failures, and feedback associated with a tutoring discussion.
- Technical information needed for security and reliable operation, such as session records and server error information.
3. How student responses are used
Student lesson and discussion responses are used only to:
- Generate the current tutoring conversation and explanations.
- Estimate and record the student's demonstrated understanding of course concepts.
- Remember the student's own discussion and progress when they return.
- Diagnose failures, evaluate tutoring quality, and improve Socratiq's software and tutoring behavior.
Responses are not sold, used for targeted advertising, or used to build profiles for purposes unrelated to the student's learning or operation of Socratiq.
4. AI inference
Socratiq operates the model-inference instances used by the tutor on infrastructure under the project's control. Student prompts and tutor conversations are not submitted to external hosted LLM APIs or used by an external LLM provider for its own purposes. Infrastructure vendors may provide machines or network service, but they are not given student conversations to operate a separate hosted AI service.
Voice dictation is transcribed in the learner's browser. Dictation audio never leaves the device; only the editable text is included if the learner chooses to send it.
Read-aloud speech first tries enabled on-device and browser-provided voices. If server-side Edge TTS is enabled and earlier providers are unavailable, selected lesson or tutor text is sent through Socratiq to Microsoft's online speech service, and the compressed audio is returned through Socratiq. Read-aloud provider choices are stored only in that browser.
5. Public website
The public website at socratiq.org loads no analytics, advertising, or Google sign-in. Account authentication and learning happen on the separate learn.socratiq.org application.
6. Sharing
Socratiq does not sell student information. Information may be processed by infrastructure needed to host and secure the service, or disclosed when required by law or necessary to protect students, users, the service, or another person's rights. A student and learning supporter can connect only through an explicit invitation and mutual account confirmation. That connection is limited to learning progress. Tutoring transcripts and complete conversations are not included in the sharing model.
7. Retention and deletion
Account, tutoring, and progress information is retained to provide the student's learning history and operate the service. Short-lived signup affirmations that do not become accounts expire automatically. More specific retention periods and self-service access and deletion controls are still being developed and will be documented before Socratiq expands beyond its development release.
8. Age limit
Socratiq accounts are currently limited to people who affirm that they are at least 13 years old. Socratiq does not intentionally create accounts for children under 13. Students can invite a parent or other learning supporter to view learning progress; both people must explicitly confirm the connection, and either can end it.
9. Changes
This statement will change as Socratiq develops. Material changes affecting account or student information will be reflected here, and updated Terms will require renewed acceptance when appropriate.
